Speckle Park at Willarah Farm
At Willarah Farm, we’re proud to raise a herd of Speckle Park cattle, an eye-catching, resilient breed renowned for its exceptional eating quality, calm temperament, and adaptability to diverse Australian conditions.
Speckle Park cattle originated in Saskatchewan, Canada, from a cross of Angus, Shorthorn and White Park. They combine Angus marbling, Shorthorn structure, and White Park hardiness, wrapped in a distinctive speckled coat. Known for excellent feed conversion, high dressing percentages and consistently tender, premium beef, Speckle Park are as productive as they are eye-catching.
Taking the leap
Like many others, our interest in Speckle Park began when we noticed them appearing in more paddocks across our region. Their striking coats and solid structure stood out, and after connecting with other local breeders, our curiosity quickly turned into a commitment.
We took the leap by sourcing our first Speckle Park heifers from JAD Speckle Park in Yeoval, NSW, one of Australia’s most respected and innovative studs. The team at JAD, led by Justin and Amy Dickens, have built a stand out Speckle Park herd since founding the stud in 2016, and we loved their focus on structural soundness, docility, carcass performance, and data-backed breeding.
JAD Speckle Park
JAD’s emphasis on quality genetics, performance recording, and breed integrity aligned with everything we were looking for as we expanded into Speckle Park. Their cattle’s proven ability to achieve high dressing percentages (often over 60% in first-cross animals) and excellent marbling, even at younger ages, confirmed that this was a breed with real commercial value.
We are proud to carry forward the strength of their bloodlines here in Mirboo North, where our own herd continues to evolve.
